The Dimmitt Police Department recently participated in the Deaf Smith County Crisis Center Valentines Sweetheart Fundraiser. The non-profit crisis center has been helping victims of domestic violence and sexual assault since 1996 and is in Hereford. The center assists with counseling, temporary/emergency shelter, protective orders, and other resources, and offers services in English and Spanish. The 24-hour hotline is 806-363-6727.

County Conservation Partners to host local work group meeting

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Castro County and the Running Water Soil and Water Conservation District is seeking input from the public on how to best serve local citizens through Farm Bill conservation programs and technical assistance.

HPWD continues measuring water wells

High Plains Water District has been measuring water levels since Jan. 3 and has 1,289 well measured thus far with 90 wells to go. HPWD field technicians have been busy with the annual observation well measurements, with some still in use when first visited. Those will be rechecked.

Remington, 7th grader/Castro 4-H, had his personal high scores in his age group; Oliver, 8th grader/Castro 4-H, was one bird shy of the top five shooters in his age group; and Harrison, Naz FFA, won the Champion Junior Shootout title in his age group, as well a $10,000 scholarship.
