The 2023 Chamber of Commerce Light Parade was a big success. The winners were: Best Overall - Western Equipment; Shining Star - Castro County Healthcare; and Most Festive – FBC Kids. Judges for the parade were Jonathan Sullivan, King Burney and Eliezer Garrido.

The Nazareth Swifts competed at the Martin’s Mill’s Bryan Mewbourn Invitational this past weekend and came home with a Consolation title, winning three of four games at the tourney: Grapeland 50 – Naz 45 (L); Naz 40 (W) - West Rusk 35; Naz 59 (W)- Redwater 38; Consolation game – Naz 45 (W) 45 – Tatum 34.

Unemployment rate holds at 4.0%

Texas unemployment rates remained unchanged in November at 4.0 percent compared to October, with more than a half million people remaining unemployed.
Utah had the lowest jobless rate in November, 2.2 percent. The next lowest rates were in Minnesota and North Dakota, 2.3 percent each.

MSU coach dies after hospitalization

Mississippi State University Head Football Coach Mike Leach had a massive heart attack this past Sunday, leading to hospitalization in the Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, and died on Monday evening.

Bobcats top Falcons, 53-40

The Dimmitt Bobcats scored a win against the Bushland Falcons, 53-40, this past Tuesday.
Bushland edged out in the lead about the middle of the first quarter until the Bobcats got warmed up and the offensive started sinking baskets and gaining the lead by two points at the end of the period, 13-10.

Bobcats fall to Steers, 56-44

The Dimmitt Bobcats were defeated by the Farwell Steers, 56-44.
The first quarter, both teams came in with 10 points each, tying the score going into the second quarter. Dimmitt outshot the Steers by three points, putting them in the lead 26-23 going into halftime.

UT basketball coach suspended following arrest
Beard
University of Texas basketball coach Chris Beard was suspended without pay following his arrest early Monday.
Austin police spokesman Brandon Jones said Beard is accused of choking a person at a home in the Tarrytown neighborhood in West Austin.
