Farmers, ranchers to vote in FSA election

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has started mailing ballots for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee elections to eligible farmers and ranchers across the country. To be counted, ballots must be returned to the Castro County FSA office or postmarked by Dec. 5.

Abbott targets Harris County election issues

Governor Greg Abbott has called for an investigation following issues at several Harris County polling locations. This is the second election there were major problems in Harris County.

Thanksgiving dinner costs up 20%

Consumers will need to dig a bit deeper into their pocketbooks to pay for classic Thanksgiving food items this year. The American Farm Bureau’s 37th annual marketplace survey indicates a typical Thanksgiving feast for 10 would be $64.05, a 20% increase from last year’s average of $53.31.

Dimmitt High School held its annual Veterans Day Program with a theme “No One Fights Alone” on Nov. 11 at the DHS gymnasium. The DHS Student Council and numerous student organizations helped honor local veterans.

The Hart Longhorns came in with a big win over the Cotton Center Elks, 73-13, in their final game of the season. The Longhorns dominated the game, getting things started in the first quarter with a 45yard run and touchdown by Hugo Perez, with Draven Dominguez putting up two extra points.

Dimmitt, Naz XC teams compete at state

Cross country teams and individuals from Dimmitt High School and Nazareth High School competed in the Texas UIL State Cross Country Meet in Round Rock this past weekend. The 1A and 3A competitions were held at Old Settler’s Park on Saturday.

The Dimmitt Middle School 7th grade football team beat the Tulia Hornets by a score of 28-20, behind a great performance by running back Victor Lozano who rushed for 283 yards, scoring three touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. Romeo Lopez rushed for 83 yards, scoring one touchdown.

The Nazareth Swiftettes scored a win against the Gruver Lady Greyhounds on Tuesday, 45-32. Gruver pushed out ahead in the first quarter by one point, 10-9, and held a two-point lead as the first half ended, 22-20.

The Nazareth Swifts clenched their final regular season game in two quarters against the Wildorado Mustangs, 72-7. The Swifts took charge the first quarter with a strong defense scoring 36 points while their defense held the Mustangs to zero.
