Texas unemployment remains high, 7.2%

Now 10 months into the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texas’ unemployment rate stays near Great Recessionlevel highs. The unemployment rate in Texas decreased to 7.2 percent in December, more than double the rate of 3.5 percent a year earlier. Locally, the Castro County unemployment rate is at 4.

Swifts defeat Cowboys

The Nazareth Swifts beat the Happy Cowboys in a conference game, 65-21. The Swifts positioned themselves with a strong lead in the first quarter, 18-4, and continue to attack the net, pushing out front 32-9 as the first half ended.

Swift crush Mustangs, 67-26

The Nazareth Swifts beat the Wildorado Mustangs 67-26 in a district game. The Swifts charged out ahead in the first quarter, 27-8, and continued to widen their lead in the second quarter, to close out the first half 38-11.

Swiftettes trounce Cowgirls, 46-15

The Nazareth Swiftettes defeated the Happy Cowgirls in a district game, 46-15. Nazareth took charge of the net in the first quarter, pushing out ahead of the Cowgirls 16-2.

Swiftettes pound Lady Eagles

The Nazareth Swiftettes claimed an easy win over the Channing Lady Eagles, 98-11. Nazareth jumped out ahead in the first quarter 26-2 and continued to hit from the field and widen their lead in the second quarter, closing the first half out, 52-6.

DHS robotics compete virtually

During the New Year time frame, Dimmitt Robotics played three teams in a virtual scrimmage with the North Texas(DFW) area. Dimmitt teams 13755, 12398,15152 were 3 out of 8 teams that participated.

St. Ann’s to hold Sausage Dinner

St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Bovina will be having their annual German Sausage Dinner on Jan. 31. The dinner will begin at 11:30 a.m. and last through 2 p.m. St. Ann’s is located on 3rd Street in Bovina.
