WTAMU horse judging scores big at Fort Worth

A West Texas A&M University horse judging squad was named reserve champion at a recent national competition— coming just one point shy of tying the winner.The WTAMU team placed second behind a Texas A&M University team at the National Reined Cow Horse Judging Contest, held Feb. 22-23 in Fort Worth.
Hart Junior High Robotics team placed fifth at the GEAR Robotics tournament in Amarillo this last weekend. They led after two rounds but fell to fifth in the third round. Members of the team include Jasmin Flores, Lilianna Rivera, Adrian Goboy and Oliver Garcia. Coaching the team is Don Bell.

State sales tax revenue $3.7B in February

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced the state sales tax revenue totaled $3.69 billion in February, 0.05 percent more than in February 2023. The majority of February sales tax revenue is based on sales made in January and remitted to the agency in February.

Wildfires continue to rage in Texas Panhandle

Firefighters in the Texas Panhandle continue to battle several active wildfires that have burned around 1.3 million acres, destroyed at least 500 structures and killed thousands of livestock; two people have been confirmed dead.

TFB establishes wildfire relief fund

Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) has established the Texas Panhandle Wildfire Relief Fund to assist farmers and ranchers impacted by the devastating fires burning through the Panhandle.Over 1 million acres have burned. It’s a devastating situation for Panhandle towns, families and agriculture.

SCOTUS temporarily halts Texas SB 4

In a battle of the courts, the U.S. Supreme Court temporarily halted Texas Senate Bill 4 from going into effect, reversing a 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on March 2.
