Abbott issues disaster declaration due to wildfires

Governor Greg Abbott announced that he has issued a disaster declaration for 191 Texas counties in response to widespread wildfire activity throughout the state. Additional counties may be added as conditions warrant.

DISD approves property tax increase

The Dimmitt ISD Board of Trustees met on Aug. 14 and voted to increase the property tax rate following a public hearing. The property tax rate increase of $1.0915 would be comprised of an M&O (Maintenance and Operations) tax rate of $0.7565 and an I&S (Interest and Sinking) tax rate of $0.

U.S. Representative Ronny Jackson of Amarillo allegedly threatened a DPS state trooper and said he would bring down a local sheriff following an altercation at the White Deer Rodeo.

Hegar distributes $1.2B in sales tax allocations to counties, cities

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for August, 2.8 percent more than in August 2022.
