DISD honors employees

Dimmitt ISD held its annual end-of-the-year luncheon to honor it employees on May 19. Years of Service awards were given to teachers and employees in recognition of their dedicated work to the school district and students.

County students on SPC President, Deans lists

South Plains College announced four students from Castro County who made either the President’s List or Dean’s List. Emma Schilling, graduate of Dimmitt High School, was among the 300 students named to the Spring 2021 President’s List. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 4.

Study offers ways to avoid home break ins

A new study offers Texas residents the best ways to avoid home crimes with top tactics ranging from alarm systems and guns to hanging “Beware of Dog” signs. FBI crime statistics show $15.8 billion was lost in home and property crimes in 2019.

DHS Robotics receive awards at banquet

The Dimmitt Robots wrapped up their regular season after competing in nine virtual meets, receiving numerous awards and having their banquet. DHS Team 12398 will be traveling on June 13 to compete in the UIL Robotics State Championship and Texas Cup.

HPWD to hold hearings on proposed DFCs

In accordance with Texas Water Code, the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District (HPWD) Board of Directors is seeking public comment on proposed Desired Future Conditions (DFCs) for Groundwater Management Area (GMA) 1 & 2. Castro County lies within the GMA 2.

Ag Texas scholarships

Nazareth seniors Emma Kleman and Luke Betzen were presented their $1000 scholarships by Ag Texas. Mark Kleman, Tami Griffitt and other staff members made the presentation

ENMU Dean’s List

Two Dimmitt High School graduates have been named to the Eastern New Mexico University Spring 2021 Dean’s List. Arien Mendoza and Isabel Vargas both earned their way onto the list. To be named, a student must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours with a GPA of 3.25 or greater.
