WTAMU meat judging scores big at national competition

West Texas A&M University’s meat judging team brought home a major national victory after competing at the American Royal Meat Judging contest held on Oct. 15 in Omaha, Nebraska.
District 2 STEM Ambassadors Spencer Acker, Castro County, Mason Scott and Annie Watson, Lynn County , and Jeremy Burt, Lamb County, joined other 2023-- 2024 Texas 4-H STEM Ambassadors this past weekend at the Texas 4-H Center in Brownwood to practice ‘Elevator Speeches,” shoot off water rockets, navigate a ropes course, and learn about citizen science as a part of team building and planning out the rest of the year.

Invenergy conducted its annual mock emergency and rescue alongside Castro County emergency responders as well as Aero Care on Oct. 18. The training tests technicians and local responders on how to conduct emergency rescues while up tower on a wind turbine.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced is sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for October, 4.5% more than the October 2022 period. Castro County will receive $23,900 for October, a decrease of -1.
