Castro County 4-H Kids, Cloverbuds sign-up underway

Castro County 4-H is signing up youth for the new 4-H Kids and Cloverbuds program. The kick-off meeting will be held on Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. Parents are invited to come by the extension office and see what will be offered in the new program.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for September, 3.4 percent more than in September 2022.

County approves Hunger Action Month

The Castro County Commissioners Court at the Monday meeting approved September to be designated in a 2023 Hunger Action Month Proclamation. The proclamation was signed by County Judge Mandy Gfeller.

Chili cookoff set for Sept. 30

It is time to get out the recipes and be prepared to compete. The 11th Annual Highway to Hell*O*Terlingua chili cookoff is scheduled for Sept. 30 and will be held at Dimmitt Recreation and Country Club.

Bobcats fall to Mustangs

The Dimmitt Bobcats lost a game to the Olton Mustangs last Friday, 0-43. Olton took a 7-point lead in the first quarter, extending their lead to 27, while holding the Bobcats to a zero gain in the first half.
