Grant Jeffrey Cline of Frisco, Texas, tragically died on June 6 while pursuing his passion for climbing the rock face of Royal Arches in Yosemite National Park. He was 18.
Several Deaf Smith County 4-Hers took firsts in District 1 4-H Record Book competition recently. Max Hedrick – 1st Place, Consumer Education; Sam Detten was first in Public Speaking and Macy Betzen had the first place Rabbit record book; Colin Matthews – and Andrew Matthews took second place in Shooting Sports. Lillian Baird and Jace Niño competed in Swine record books. Macy Betzen won the drawing to receive a $500 Senior Record Book Scholarship sponsored by the District 1 4-H Friends and Alumni.

Hereford band students attended the 74th Annual Band Camp at West Texas A&M University last week! Students spent the week developing their musical skills, learning from outstanding instructors, and making memories to last a lifetime. Concerts were presented on Saturday, July 11.

Sales tax receipts for HEDC up slightly for May, June

Sales tax receipts for the Hereford Economic Development Corporation for May and June were both up somewhat but may prove “nip and tuck” to meet the amount budgeted for the current fiscal year budget according to the latest sales tax comparison presented at the July 1 meeting of the body.
L’Allegra Study Club recently gathered for a summer poolside meeting at the home of Mike and Eva Mullins. Members enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship while celebrating the success of the club’s recent spring fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting Meals on Wheels. The club also welcomed new member Karron Smith. L’Allegra will reconvene in September, when newly elected officers will assume their Leadership roles for the coming year.
