As temperatures rise across Texas, residents face more than just discomfort – they face serious health risks. In recent years, many communities have experienced prolonged stretches of triple- digit temperatures, dangerous heat indexes and increased strain on power systems.
A large crowd braved the triple digit temperatures last week to celebrate Hart Days. The annual event always draws a large crowd for its parade, pageant and much more. Joe Lynn Birkenfeld, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Nazareth, Texas Joe was born on April 22, 1938, in Knox County, Texas, to Christopher Birkenfeld and Rose (Decker) Birkenfeld. At the age he would call home for the rest of his life.
