Hereford Brand Publisher Jeff Blackmon and award-winning columnist Kerrie Steiert, who has a long history of news and column writing with The Brand, were inducted into the Panhandle Press Association Hall of Fame at ceremonies during the 117th PPA Convention Saturday at the Hereford Country Club.

Two arrested after homicide investigation
News Staff
Two men have been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation that occurred on Monday July 6, 2026 in Castro County.According to the Castro County Sheriff’s Department, both men were arrested on warrants and booked into the Castro County Jail where they are awaiting arraignment.

Southwestern Public Service Co. awarded $113 million grant to improve electric reliability, reduce costs for Texas customers

Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS), a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, will receive a $113 million Texas Energy Fund Outside ERCOT Grant to benefit customers in the Panhandle and south Plains, Texas Governor Greg Abbot annouced this week.
