Life expectancy below pre-pandemic levels

Life expectancy in the United States rose slightly last year but remains below what it was pre-COVID 19 pandemic levels. According to the CDC, the rise is back to 77 years and six months, a figure from two decades ago.The calculations released last Wednesday are awaiting finalization.

Acker scores first cotton bale

North Gin ginned the first cotton bale of the 2023 season in Castro County which was grown by Kevin Acker. The cotton variety was DeltaPine 1822 and produced a grade value of .5778 cents in the loan.

The Lone Star State’s seasonally adjusted civilian labor force reached a new record high of 15,162,100 after growing by 20,900 people over the month in October. This marked the 10th consecutive monthly increase and included the addition of 21,100 Texans employed over the month.

The Dimmitt Chamber of Commerce held its ribbon cutting for Simply Grace Aesthetics and Wellness on Nov. 15. Owner Karis Farris was joined by friends and family at the event. Farris, who is a registered nurse with experience in rural healthcare, emergency medicine and school health, is taking her experience into skincare and vitalized health at her business which opened in August. The business is located at 208 West Bedford St. in Dimmitt.

The High Plains Water District (HPWD) adopted rules changes required brought into play by the 88th Texas Legislature HB 2443. All groundwater conservation districts were required to adopt the new rule by Dec. 1 and implement the provision.

Mexico rejects Texas right to deport illegal aliens
