The Nazareth Dairy Cattle Judging team competed at the State Fair of Texas in the first contest of the year. The team placed seventh overall. Team members include Jett Ramaekers, Zach Huseman, Daniel Schacher, Brett Heitschmidt, Alishia Osterkamp and Iris Schilderink.

Dimmitt FCCLA students volunteered at the South Plains Food Bank apple orchard near Lubbock. They picked 120 buckets of apples, bagged and filled seven large containers of washed apples, and laughed and talked and giggled the whole time. The orchard staff was so sweet to the kids and answered so many questions. SPFB thanked the students for coming out to help. FCCLA also thanked the University Ave. restaurants for serving them lunch. The Dimmitt Middle School Advanced Family Consumer Science class had the opportunity to tour First United Bank in order to help them better understand the lessons they are learning in their Dollars and Sense coursework, a class taught by Connie Montelongo.

Naz robotics rookies compete at scrimmage

Robotics season is about to get underway with teams from Nazareth, Hart and Dimmitt competing at a Texas-West and Panhandle Region scrimmage this past weekend at AmTech Center in Amarillo. Nazareth had two all-rookie teams – Teams 18570 and 16617 - competing at the event.

The challenges and demands for college students can be great, but especially so when one chooses to tackle starting a new business at the same time. Dalia Villarreal from Hart is currently attending South Plains College and studying to be a respiratory therapist and is set to graduate in May 2023.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.06 billion in local sales tax allocations for October, 17.4 percent more than in October 2021.

For National 4-H Week, the Castro County 4-H Club honored their recent Star Award winners. Star Awards are given to youth who completed a record book, an application, and interview.
