Manager sought for border wall

A request for proposals (RFP) is imminent for a program manager to oversee the construction of the Texas-Mexico border wall.

4-H’ers on target

Castro County 4-H Harrison and Oliver Meador competed in Intermediate Modified Trap at the Texas 4-H State Shooting Sports Games. Both shot a 39 out of 50. Harrison placed 4th in Intermediate American Trap shooting a 74 out of 75 targets.

Chamber golf tourney set for Aug. 14

The Dimmitt Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its Annual Chamber of Commerce Tournament. The event will be held at Dimmitt Recreation on Aug. 14 with a 1 p.m. ball drop. It will be a 3-person scramble and will be paying first, second and last place.

Shooter faces federal complaint

The alleged Levelland shooter Omar Soto-Chavira will now face federal charges of assaulting a federal officer in addition to the state capitol murder charges he already faces.

USDA extends hiring deadline to Aug. 4

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is currently hiring several different field positions across Texas. Positions include soil conservationists, rangeland management specialists, soil scientists, and engineers.

Rabies is usually associated with dogs or bats, but it also can develop insidiously in a variety of mammals. Rabies in livestock, such as cattle, may be rare, but its ability to spread through the herd still poses a serious risk.

Our summer reading program here at Rhoads Memorial Library continues as youngsters enter the final stretch of the event. July 31 is the final day of the annual program, just in time for schools to begin mid-August throughout Castro County.
