Parade of Lights kicks off Dec. 17

Hosted by the Dimmitt Chamber of Commerce, the Parade of Lights is set for Dec. 17 and will begin at 7 p.m. Parade floats may begin lining up in the parking lot west of Dimmitt Middle School facing north at 6:30 p.m.

After 150 years under the ownership of the Burnett family, the three properties of the 6666 Ranch are up for sale, according to a Lubbock brokerage firm.

Hegar reports $2.98B in November sales tax revenue

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today said state sales tax revenue totaled $2.98 billion in November, 6.3 percent less than in November 2019. Locally, Castro County sale tax revenue collected was $21,305 compared to last year at $18,558, a 14.80 percent increase.

Sheriff’s Office kicks off annual Toy Drive

The Castro County Sheriff’s Office is kicking off its annual Toy Drive to benefit the children of Castro County who may not be as fortunate. Last year, the Sheriff’s Office was able to provide toys to over 80 children in Castro County.

Rewards offered for info on burglaries

The Castro County Crime Line is offering two $500 rewards for two burglaries committed in Dimmitt on Nov. 23 and/or Nov. 24. The Dimmitt Veterinary Clinic and Fresh Donuts Plus Shop were both burglarized between business closing hours on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24 when the business re-opened.

Castro County Museum has few days that pass without an unusual encounter of one kind or another, according to Leta Dennis. Dennis said she never knows when to answer that “unknown caller” phone call or to whom she will be speaking or what request for information she is about to hear.
