Texas hits COVID-19 peak

Texas health officials say new cases of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 have hit a new peak, as the state recorded 1,010,364 cases early Wednesday with 19,337 deaths since the pandemic began in early March.

Drought continues across Texas, U.S.

A rapidly expanding drought cycle that took the country from just 8 percent with dry, drought-like conditions in spring 2019 continued to more than 58 percent by fall 2020, according to Bill Kirk, CEO of Weather Trends 360.

FUMC Olton to hold chili/stew lunch

Olton’s First United Methodist Church will be serving a Chili-Stew lunch on Nov. 21. Due to COVID-19, all meals will be carryout. Serving/pickup begins at 11 a.m. and will continue through 1 p.m. at the churches fellowship hall on 312 Ave. D in Olton.

Covenant, UMC to deploy medical tents

On Tuesday, the City of Lubbock announced that due to the recent surge in Coronavirus cases and hospitalizations, mobile medical tents will be erected outside University Medical Center (UMC) and Covenant Health starting this week.
