Local students from Castro County attending South Plains College and Angelo State University were named on 2024 Fall Dean’s List Earning their way onto the ACU Dean’s List were Brooklyn Dyer of Nazareth, majoring in health science professions, and Iliana Peralta of Dimmitt, majoring in psychology.

Texas starts year with 2.9M businesses

Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson announced that Texas begins the year with more than 2.9 million entities actively registered with the agency to conduct business in Texas.As of January 1, 2025, Texas has 2,928,688 registered business entities — 125,329 more than last year.

2024 both good, bad for Texas

It was both a good and bad year Texans in 2024 with new businesses arriving but residents being challenged with disasters hitting many parts of the state, and challenging drought conditions, including in the Panhandle and South Plains.

Canyon ISD temporarily removed Bible from libraries

Canyon Independent School District temporarily removed the Bible in an effort to comply with a state law that bans sexually explicit materials in school. It was soon after reinstated.
