Sheriff’s Office kicks off annual Toy Drive

The Castro County Sheriff’s Office is kicking off its annual Toy Drive to benefit the children of Castro County who may not be as fortunate. Last year, the Sheriff’s Office was able to provide toys to over 80 children in Castro County.

Rewards offered for info on burglaries

The Castro County Crime Line is offering two $500 rewards for two burglaries committed in Dimmitt on Nov. 23 and/or Nov. 24. The Dimmitt Veterinary Clinic and Fresh Donuts Plus Shop were both burglarized between business closing hours on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24 when the business re-opened.

Castro County Museum has few days that pass without an unusual encounter of one kind or another, according to Leta Dennis. Dennis said she never knows when to answer that “unknown caller” phone call or to whom she will be speaking or what request for information she is about to hear.

Swiftettes clench XC state title

The Nazareth Swiftettes brought home the Texas State Cross Country 1A title after competing at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock on Monday. The championship 2-mile race had 121 runners of the best runners in the state competing. Senior Emma Kleman placed second individually with a time of 12:15.

The Nazareth Swiftettes walked away with another decisive win over the Sudan Lady Hornets, 47-27. Nazareth took charge in the first quarter, outscoring Sudan 11-6.

Swiftettes defeat Lady Demons, 36-17

The Nazareth Swiftettes beat the Dumas Lady Demons, 36-17. Nazareth got off to a slow start scoring two points in the first quarter, with Dumas taking the lead 7-2, but bounced back in the second quarter to tie the game up, 12-12.

Bobcats edge out Bulldogs, 48-46

The Dimmitt Bobcats won a nail-biter against the Borger Bulldogs, 48-46. The Bobcats took a narrow lead in the first quarter over the Bulldogs, 7-3, but Borger pushed through in the second quarter to tie the game up 20-20 as the first half ended.

The Dimmitt Bobcats lost their bout against the Hereford Whitefaces, 59-31. The Bobcats took a onepoint lead in the first quarter, 9-8, but lost ground in the second quarter as the Whitefaces offense kicked into gear and gained a 25-15 lead, closing the first half with Dimmitt trailing.
