State sales tax revenue lagging

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said Monday sales tax revenue totaled $2.72 billion in October, 3.5 percent less than in October 2019. Total net payments this period were $46,631,230.09, less than October 2019 at $48,987,600.73, a negative 4.81 percent change.

Federal judge allows drive-thru polling

A federal judge ruled Monday that votes cast by drive-thru polling in Harris County, Texas, will not be invalidated after a challenge to the state’s election plan. The League of Women Voters of Texas joined the case as intervenors along with the ACLU of Texas.

Ag Queen entry deadline nears

It’s not to late to get entered. Entries and information for the Castro County Ag Queen & Princess Contest will be due on Nov. 19. Entrants from Nazareth, Dimmitt and Hart FFA Chapters, as well as Castro County 4-H members are eligible to enter.

The Castro County courthouse was decked out in flags on the 2020 General Election Day last week, as last-minute voters rushed to cast their ballots. While the final results of the election may not be known immediately, voters on all sides are hopeful they will prevail.

The Nazareth Color Run hosted by the Naz High School cheerleaders was a big success and fun for all who participated.

The Nazareth Education Foundation had another successful annual fundraiser weekend before last. The event included a steak/chicken dinner a reverse raffle and a drawing of raffle items. Members of the National Honor Society assisted with serving drinks and desserts and working in the kitchen.
